Welcome

My name is Daicey Richardson, and I am currently in my junior year of high school at Tabor Academy. Since age 4, I have been completely in love with horses and plan on having them by my side for the rest of my life. I have always believed that riding has everything to do with the bond between you and your horse, and live by the expression, ¨If you're walking into the show ring on your most trusted partner and closest friend, you've already won.¨

Experience

2022

In 2022, I competed at numerous A-rated shows on Come Monday including Winter Equestrian Festival, HITS Vermont, and Lake Placid, as well as qualifying and competing at Massachusetts Horsemen's Council finals and placing 2nd, placing 8th at Rhode Island equitation finals and 2nd in the horsemanship, and scoring an 85 in the first round of New England Equitation Championships Finals, which allowed me to move up to the second round. I also competed on my barn's Interscholastic Equestrian Association team and scored 5th at Zone 1 finals as our team flat rider.

USJHA Emerging Athletes Program, 2022 and 2023

During both 2022 and 2023, I applied and was accepted into the USHJA Emerging Athletes Program for Zone 1. EAP allows young riders to develop new knowledge about horses through a week of barn management experience and classroom learning, and allows them to connect more with their own horse during daily group training sessions with the selected clinician. This program sparked my interest because I am always striving for a better connection with my horses and I will take any opportunity to gain helpful knowledge about them. This program allowed me to see different approaches to training as well as opened my mind to better caretaking and management in the barn.

Sprucedale Ranch, Arizona, Summers 2021 - Current

For 4 years, I have been working on a ranch in northern Arizona as a ranch hand. This job includes wrangling horses and cattle, starting colts, taking guests on rides, working in the kitchen, and getting an overall completely different experience than the East Coast can offer. Working on this ranch not only allows me to develop a well-rounded knowledge of different types of equine work but has also introduced me to western riding. I have found that getting experience in different disciplines has greatly aided my riding ability and I am much more adaptable when riding different types of horses, as well as able to introduce new training techniques to their regimen.

Interscholastic Equestrian Association 2019 - 2022

When I decided to join my barn's IEA team, I immediately fell in love with not only the opportunity to ride and show different horses, but also the team aspect. Before IEA, I had always looked at riding as a partnership between you and your horse, but I quickly learned that it can be just as much about your team. This program taught me how to quickly adapt to riding different horses, teamwork, and that a strong work ethic will get you places faster.
